An intimate setting, the joy of horses
Designed for a private owner’s horses, l’Écurie de la Petite Pierre is located near an equestrian facility that provides complementary facilities and pasture for the horses. This proximity allows the project to focus on the essentials: a place for horses to rest, attentive to their comfort and their rider’s daily enjoyment.
On a plot barely larger than the footprint required to accommodate the brief, every dimension matters. The siting and proportions are carefully refined to balance efficiency, harmonious volumes and spatial quality. Arranging the program over two levels, with the stables on the ground floor and storage above, creates a compact building that makes efficient use of the available land. Despite this density, the architecture retains an intimate scale while providing the generous volumes essential to the wellbeing of horses and people alike.
The limestone of the two gable walls gives the building its character and presence. Combined with rendered façades, it forms a restrained mineral envelope, accented by dark grey window and door frames and zinc detailing. Inside, timber takes precedence. Its texture and tonal variations lend warmth to everyday routines, creating a welcoming, intimate atmosphere.
Considered down to the smallest detail, the stables combine the precision of a functional building with the sensory qualities of a place to inhabit. A serene setting where caring for horses, enjoying their company and quiet contemplation each find their natural place.
